On June 18th 2026, Tamsin Grainger in Granton, Edinburgh and Kristina Rothstein at Ebbor Gorge in Somerset used the medium of mail art for a second time in their Walking in Pairs project. Each collected materials during the walk, physical or otherwise, to collaborate on two unspecified mixed media collages with the theme of “layers.” (See video of finished artwork below.)
In a final communication before setting out, Kristina typed “players” instead of “layers,” inspiring Tamsin to imagine the walk as interactive, and create a textile sewn playing board afterwards.
Kristina had felt that her walk was missing an element, and the “players” angle filled the gap. She created a handmade book / zine (above), collaging half of the pages and leaving the other half for Tamsin to fill in. She then stitched her own route and findings onto Tamsin’s original textile game board, and Tamsin played with needle and thread, and collage, to complete the zine.
